I stared at these very large bird tracks in the snow for longer than I care to admit before it finally dawned on me—wild turkeys! They can be 5” long and 5.5” wide. My own hands are about 6” x 3” so I had a moment where I really wondered what I was dealing with! #turkeytracks #tracks #winterhikes
I prefer the Superb Owl. I’ve made a couple of trips up to the Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge recently to see the short eared owls. The place is stunning, with lots of raptor activity. Makes me jealous of everyone who shows up with big lenses. I’m working on it with my basic gear—much harder to get a swiftly swooping owl in focus than a perched hawk. #owls #shortearedowl #naturephotography #birdphotography
In Westchester we have both red and gray foxes, but the majority are red. Every once in a while I’m lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one! #redfox #naturalhistoryillustration #wildlife #watercolor #natureart
I may decide to paint the Great Horned Owl I saw on New Year’s Day, but I did one last year and I have so many species still to paint! This one lives at Teatown and goes by the name Orion. #naturalhistoryillustration #owlart #raptors #sciart
